Book of the Week #13: Crank by Ellen Hopkins

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, if they celebrate it, and a great holiday if not! Here's this week's BotW. CRANK by Ellen Hopkins Title: Crank Author: Ellen Hopkins Publication Date: Feb 2008 When I Read It: Jan 2009 Synopsis: Kristina Georgia Snow is the perfect daughter: a gifted student, quiet, never any trouble. But on a trip to visit her absentee father, Kristina disappears and Bree takes her place. Bree is a total opposite to Kristina - she's fearless. Through a boy she meets, Bree is introduced to the monster: crank. And what begins as a wild, ecstatic ride turns into a struggle through hell for her mind, her soul and, ultimately, her life. - from amazon.co.uk Ages: 16+ Why I Loved It: The way it's written, in poem form, makes it unique, and the story is really thought provoking.

Book Review: The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart. - From Goodreads.com The Iron Daughter is the second book in The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. It's one of my favourite series, and it's awesome. Meghan is a faery princess who is half human. She's being held by Queen Mab, the queen of the Unseelie court, and happens to be in love with her son, Ash. But,

Book Review: Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir Princess, Lissa. Book Blogger Hop #11 and Follow Friday #6

It's time again for the Book Blogger Hop and Follow Friday. I say that every week, and I think it's a little cheesy... Oh well. I like cheese! What is the thing you like most about reading book blogs? Is it the reviews, author guest posts, giveaways, or something else entirely?  My answer: I really like the reviews, as it adds to my ever growing list of books I need to read, but I like everything about book blogs really! I like memes too, like Teaser Tuesday and Waiting on Wednesday, and of course the Book Blogger Hop and Follow Friday! I just love book blogs, and I love it when you can read a post that someone has done, and you can tell what kind of person wrote it. =]  Do you have an under-noticed author that you think we should all know about?  My answer: Well, having just read Knight Angels: Book of Love by Abra Ebner, I'm going to have to say her. She's a self-published author, and I think that her books are awesome! You should definitely go and buy them, an

Book Review: Knight Angels: Book of Love by Abra Ebner

When seventeen-year-old Jane Taylor witnessed her father's death, something happened to her. Ever since, her thoughts have been consumed by death, going so far as to foresee the ever-changing deaths of those around her. Sixteen-year-old Emily Taylor resented her sister's closeness with their father, who died when she was six. With the strange ability to read minds, she drowns the voices out with drugs, sending Jane over the edge. When seventeen-year-old Wes Green was adopted, he moved in next door to Jane, finding in her a childhood friend turned high-school crush. All summer, the pain in his bones seemed unwarranted. He was done growing long ago. When senior year starts, however, the pain only gets worse. The foreseen changes are not expected, and far too animal for his taste. When Max Gordon found himself standing above the dying body of an innocent seven-year-old girl, he saw in her eyes something he hadn't seen in the century he'd spent roaming Earth. Her father was

Book of the Week #11: Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston

So, for the Book of the Week, I've decided I'm going to start choosing old books, that have been around for a while, as I feel that sometimes they get forgotten, unless they have sequels out. So, I've chosen Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston this week, because the last book in the series, Tempestuous, is coming out on the 21st December, which is in 2 weeks! =] WONDROUS STRANGE by Lesley Livingston Title: Wonrous Strange Author: Lesley Livingston Publication Date: Jan 2009 When I Read It: March 2009 Synopsis: 17 year-old Kelley Winslow doesn’t believe in Faeries. Not unless they’re the kind that you find in a theatre, spouting Shakespeare—the kind that Kelley so desperately wishes she could be: onstage, under lights, with a pair of sparkly wings strapped to her shoulders. But as the understudy in a two-bit, hopelessly off-off-Broadway production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, wishing is probably the closest she’s going to get to becoming a Faerie Queen. At l

Book Blogger Hop #10 and Follow Friday #5

It's Friday again, so time for the Book Blogger Hop and the Follow Friday! What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?  My answer: I didn't really enjoy Fallen by Lauren Kate very much, and I'm not sure why, I just didn't. Anyway, I wasn't really sure how to post my review, but I ended up saying why I didn't like it, but also all the parts I thought were good. I always try and post my honest opinion, and if I didn't like a particular book, I will try and say so in the nicest way possible, saying what the good bits were too. Because a book can't be all bad, can it?  What do you do besides reading/reviewing as a hobby? My answer: Although reading takes up a lot of my time, I do do other things... I play the flute, and am currently on Grade 6 so that takes up a lot of my time too... And apart from reading and reviewing on my blog, I don't really do much else. I listen to a

Book Review: Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

2011 Debut Author Challenge!

OK, I'll admit it. I think I can officially say I have failed the 2010 Debut Author Challenge. It's a shame really, but oh well. I've decided to try the challenge again though, in 2011, so hopefully I'll do a lot better. The 2011 Debut Author Challenge is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren , and the aim is to read at least 12 books by debut authors of YA and MG fiction. I'm going to aim again for 15 books, as I think this is manageable. So, here is a list of books that I will choose 15 from, I won't be reading them all. Well, I might, but maybe not. Teaser Tuesday #8: Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This week my teaser is from Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I've only just started reading so the teaser's from quite near the beginning, but that doesn't matter. Here it is: The alpha's effect on his wolves was immediate and overpowering. Bless my human immunity. What book is your teaser from? Leave a link in the comments!

Book of the Week #8: Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins

It's Book of the Week time again! Yes, I know, the Book of the Weeks recently have been books that I've just finished, and basically, it's just because I need to rave about them, and this post is a way to do it. So, this week, I just finished Hex Hall, and you guessed it, that's the BotW! Next week, I'll try not to choose a book that I've just finished... But I'm not promising anything! Anyway, Hex Hall: HEX HALL by Rachel Hawkins Title: Hex Hall Author: Rachel Hawkins Publication Date: April 2010 When I Read It: November 2010 Synopsis: In the wake of a love spell gone horribly wrong, Sophie Mercer, a sixteen-year-old witch, is shipped off to Hecate Hall, a boarding school for witches, shapeshifters and faeries. It's bad enough that she has to deal with a trio of mean girls led by the glamorous Elodie, but it's even worse when she begins to

Book Review: Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins

Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters. By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect. As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for

Book Blogger Hop #7 and Follow Friday #2

It's Friday again, and tome for the Book Blogger Hop and the Follow Friday. First up, the Book Blogger Hop. If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title? My answer: Yes, definitely. I don't like reading books out of order, as I get confused, and if I've read book 3 without reading book 1, I'll end up muddling myself up, and not enjoy reading them. I can't start in the middle of the series, it just feels wrong. I always start at the beginning of the series, and work my way through all the books, in order. Also, I don't like being spoiled, so if I read the second book first, I'll know what's coming after the first one before I read it, and where's the fun in that?  What is your usual monthly book budget? My answer: Hmm... I'm not really sure. Depends what books I want, and how long it takes to read them, and stuff like that. Usually, I get through about 8 books a month, so howeve
