Teaser Tuesday #1: Graceling

Yes, I know it's Thursday. But, I just found this, and thought I have to do that. And seeing as Tuesday is 5 days away, I might have forgotten, so for today, and just for today, it's going to have to be Teaser Thursday... Anyway, this week's teaser is from Graceling - Kristin Cashore, and it comes from page 144:  "She felt suddenly and sharply that Po was smarter than she, worlds smarter, and that she was a brute in comparison. An unthinking and unfeeling brute." What's your Teaser Tuesday? Leave a comment and a link! =]

Torment!

I just got home, and guess what I found? Torment! Yay. I don't know why I'm so excited, as, if you've read my review of Fallen  you'll know that I didn't particularly like it, but I'm very excited to read it. Maybe it's because I really hope this one's going to be better? I don't know. Anyway, must finish Graceling, so I can read Torment... =]

Book Review: Blue Bloods - Melissa de la Cruz

Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in at Duchesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes to the Prada and the pearls worn by her classmates. But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler's life changes dramatically. The death of a popular schoolmate haunts her in unexpected ways. And the strangest of all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her. Once an outcast, Schuyler is thrust into Manhattan's most exclusive social circle. Its members are the powerful, the wealthy, and - as Schuyler soon discovers - the unhuman. They are Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires, and for centuries, they've been invincible. Now something is preying on this elite group, and Schuyler wants to find out the truth. But is she the most vulnerable of them all? - From the back of the book. Blue Bloods is the first in the Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz. Though it is not her debut novel, it is her first foray into

Book Review: Hush, Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys in her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgement.  But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and knows more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel. For Nora is right in the middle of a centuries-old battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and sooner or later, she's going to have to pick a side... I love Hush, Hush. It is my favourite angel book, and I cannot wait until the 18th October, when my copy of Crescendo will be de

Book Review: Fallen - Lauren Kate

Some angels are destined to fall. Instant. Intense. Weirdly familiar... The moment Luce looks at Daniel she knows she has never felt life this before. Except she can't shake the feeling that she has ...  and with him - a boy she doesn't remember ever setting eyes on.  Will her attempt to find out why enlighten her - or destroy her? - From the back of the book. Fallen is the first book in a series by Lauren Kate. Everyone is going on and on about how it's really amazing. But, I have to say, I didn't like it. I don't know why this is, maybe because I couldn't get into it, or because I couldn't be bothered to read it at the time, I don't know. I just didn't like it. Luce Price, the main character, is very annoying. She comes across as stupid, yet apparently she's super smart, according to her grades. She stalks people, and is in a reform school. This reform school, is very laid back. There is very little security, and though I've neve

Book Review: The Reckoning - Kelley Armstrong

Chloe Saunders is fifteen and would love to be normal. Unfortunately, Chloe happens to be a genetically engineered necromancer who can raise the dead without even trying. She and her equally gifted (or should that be 'cursed'?) friends are now running for their lives from the evil corporation that created them.  As if that's not enough, Chloe is struggling with her feelings for Simon, a sweet-tempered sorcerer, and his brother Derek, a now so sweet-tempered werewolf. And she has a horrible feeling she's leaning toward the werewolf... Definitely not normal . - From the back of the book. This book is the best in the trilogy. The plot, the writing, the characters, the setting, - everything about it was just perfect. Chloe Saunders is definitely one of my favourite heroines. I was genuinely sad when the series ended, and although I realise that it needed to finish there, I was still sad. The characters grow even more in The Reckoning. It was nice when they all came

Book Review: The Awakening - Kelley Armstrong

Chloe Saunders used to be a normal teenage girl - or so she thought. Then she learned the shocking truth - she was a walking science experiment. Genetically altered at birth by a sinister team of scientists know as the Edison Group, Chloe is an aberration - a powerful necromancer who can see ghosts and even raise the dead, often with terrifying consequences. Even worse, her growing powers have made her a threat to the surviving members of the Edison Group, who have decided it's time to end their experiment - permanently... Now Chloe is running for her life with three other supernatural teenagers - a charming sorcerer, a troubled werewolf and a temperamental young witch. Together they have a chance of freedom - but can Chloe trust her new friends? - From the back of the book.  The second instalment in the Darkest Powers trilogy is the better of the two first books. The first one, The Summoning, set up the unique and original storyline, and introducing the likeable and believable

Book Review: The Sweet Far Thing - Libba Bray

It has been a year since Gemma Doyle first arrived at the foreboding Spence Academy and much has changed. Having bound the wild, dark magic of the Realms to her, Gemma has forged unlikely friendships with Ann and Felicity, and Kartik, the exotic young man whose companionship is forbidden. She has also come to an uneasy, tenuous truce with the fearsome creatures of the Realms.  But now the time has come to test the strength of those bonds. As her friendship with Ann and Felicity faces its gravest trial and with the Order grappling for control of the Realms, Gemma is compelled to decide once and for all which path she is meant to take. Her destiny threatens to set chaos loose, not only in the Realms, but also upon the rigid Victorian society whose rules Gemma has both defied and followed. Where does Gemma really belong? And will she, can she, survive? - From the back of the book. This is the last instalment in the Gemma Doyle trilogy, and I'm disappointed to see it end. I wish th

Book of the Week #1

Every week, I will post a book of the week. I think you should read it. It might be new, it might be really old. It doesn't matter. It will just be a book, that I have read, and think you should read. =] This week, for the first one, I'm going to say... CLOCKWORK ANGEL - CASSANDRA CLARE Title: Clockwork Angel  Author: Cassandra Clare Publication Date: September 2010 When I Read It: September 2010 Synopsis: Magic is dangerous - but love is more dangerous still.  When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray arrives in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Friendless and hunted, Tessa seeks refuge with the Shadowhunters, a band of warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons. Drawn ever deeper into their world, she finds herself fascinated by - and torn between - two best friends and quickly realises that love may be the most dangerou

Book Review: Rebel Angels - Libba Bray

It's the end of the year, and Gemma's looking forward to living it up in London. Balls, fancy gowns and dancing with the handsome Simon Middleton beckon. Best of all, it's time away from Spence Academy - and from the Realms. But the lure of the enchanted world is strong, and the magic flows freely. Gemma's visions intensify - visions of three girls all dressed in white, suffering horror and menace. Clearly all is not well in the Realms - or out of them. - From the back of the book. Rebel Angels is the second in Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy. It continues Gemma's story, and is just as good as A Great and Terrible Beauty. It's a good sequel, and ties up all loose ends from the first book. It also adds more characters, new situations and another mysterious plot. This is not your usual YA historical fiction book. While there is a lot of balls, gowns and dancing, there is also something more sinister lurking behind the scenes. Magic, danger and suspense p

Book Review: A Great and Terrible Beauty - Libba Bray

It's 1895 and, after the death of her mother, 16-year-old Gemma Doyle is shipped off from the life she knows in India to Spence, a proper boarding school in England. Lonely, guilt-ridden, and prone to visions of the future that have a uncomfortable habit of coming true, Gemma finds her reception a chilly one. She's not completely alone, though... she's being followed by a mysterious young man, sent to warn her to close her mind against the visions. It's at Spence that Gemma's power to attract the supernatural unfolds, as she becomes entangled with the school's most powerful girls and discovers her mother's connection to a shadowy, timeless group called The Order. Her destiny awaits... if only Gemma can believe in it. -  From the back of the book. Although A Great and Terrible Beauty has been billed as historical fiction, this is probably inaccurate. Gemma is not your typical Victorian, more like a twenty-first century girl dropped into the world of 1895.

Book Review: Beautiful Creatures - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

In Ethan Wate's hometown there lies the darkest of secrets... There is a girl. Slowly, she pulled the hood from her head... Green eyes, black hair. Lena Duchannes. There is a curse. On the sixteenth moon, of the sixteenth year, the book will take what it's been promised. And no one can stop it. In the end there is a grave. Lena and Ethan become bound together by a deep, powerful love. But Lena is cursed, and, on her sixteenth birthday, her fate will be decided. Ethan never even saw it coming. - From the back of the book. Why does everything in the YA paranormal romance genre get billed the next Twilight? Beautiful Creatures, even before publication had been getting lots of comparisons to Twilight. The authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl have already been given a movie deal, also brings people to the conclusion that it must be the new Twilight. Beautiful Creatures, though, in my opinion, is the better of the two series. Beautiful Creatures is good. Really good

Book Review: Darklight - Lesley Livingston

Faerie can't lie... or can they? Much has changed since autumn, when Kelley Winslow learned she was a Faerie princess, fell in love with changeling guard Sonny Flannery, and saved the mortal realm from the ravages of the Wild Hunt. Now Kelley is stuck in New York City, rehearsing Romeo and Juliet and missing Sonny more with every stage kiss, while Sonny has been forced back to the Otherworld and into a deadly game of cat and mouse with the remaining Hunters and Queen Mabh herself. When a terrifying encounter sends Kelley tumbling into the Otherworld, her reunion with Sonny is joyful but destined to be cut short. An ancient, hidden magick is stirring, and a dangerous new enemy is willing to risk everything to claim that power. Caught in a web of Faerie deception and shifting allegiances, Kelley and Sonny must tread carefully, for each next step could topple a kingdom... or tear them apart. - From the back of the book. Darklight is even better than Wondrous Strange. As a lot

Redo-ing Reviews

I've decided that I'm going to redo some of my reviews. The ones I wrote when I just started the blog, the ones that are just a summary of the book. I'm going to redo them, and then actually review them, so that it'll be easier to decide which books you want to get. They weren't very good, and I fear that people will read the rubbish reviews and not come back and read the better ones. So, all rubbish reviews are being redone! =] Of course, I'll still be adding new reviews, of books I'm reading at the moment! Thanks, Bella.

Book Review: Wondrous Strange - Lesley Livingston

Since the dawn of time, the Faerie have taken... For seventeen year old actress Kelley Winslow, faeries are just something from childhood stories. Then she meets Sonny Flannery, whose steel-gray eyes mask an equally steely determination to protect her. Sonny guards the Samhain Gate, which connects the mortal realm with the Faerie's enchanted, dangerous Otherworld. Usually kept shut by order of icy King Auberon, the Gate stands open but once a year. This year, as the time approaches when the Samhain Gate will swing wide and nightmarish Fae will fight their way into an unsuspecting human world, something differnet is happening... something wondrous and strange. And Kelley's eyes are opening not just to the Faeries that surround her but to the heritage that awaits her. Now Kelley must navigate deadly Faerie treachery - and her growing feelings for Sonny - in this dazzling page-turner filled with luminous romance. - From inside book jacket. I love faeries. Better than vampi

Book Review: Glass - Ellen Hopkins

One little bit, my heart revs high, then settles into quick-step mode. How I've missed that race and pound. How I've missed the lack of control. Crank. Glass. Ice. Crystal. Whatever you call it, it's all the same; a monster. Kristina thinks she can control it. Now, with a baby to care for, she is determined to be the one deciding when and how much, the one calling the shots. But the monster is strong, and before she knows it, Kristina is back in its grip... and it won't let go. - From the back of the book. Ellen Hopkins is amazing. I loved Crank, and I loved Glass even more. I just hope she has written Fallout just as well. I do have to say though, that this book is incredibly frustrating. The most annoying thing about it is, the fact that Kristina knew she was slowly killing herself, she was unable to look after herself, let alone her baby, and that she had completely destroyed her life, yet she still kept going back to the drugs. I don't have an experience w

Book Review: Full Moon - Rachel Hawthorne

I may be promised to another... but thoughts of Rafe consume me. I don't know how much longer I can resist. Lindsey is wild and reckless, a natural rebel - maybe because her entire life was laid out for her even before she was born. Her parents are among the most powerful members of the Dark Guardians, an ancient tribe of werewolves, and they arranged Lindsey's betrothal to Connor long ago. The next full moon is coming all too soon, and then her commitment to Connor will be final - no turning back. She should be happy... So why can't she stop thinking about gorgeous, brooding Rafe? When a dangerous threat on the pack escalates, so do tensions between Connor and Rafe. A fight over Lindsey is imminent, but will it be to the death? - From the back of the book. Lindsey's whole life had always been planned out for her, right from when she was small. She was promised to Connor, and she couldn't think of anyone else, until she started thinking about Rafe. And that

Book Review: Moonlight - Rachel Hawthorne

I see him and know what this turmoil inside of me means: He's the one. My forever. Adopted as a young child, she has no way of knowing that she's inherited a terrifying - and thrilling - gene that will change her life forever. LUCAS is dangerous, gorgeous... and a werewolf. As Lucas and Kayla struggle with their feelings for each other, a greater danger lurks: Humans have discovered the Dark Guardians and are planning their destruction. Kayla must choose between the life she knows and the love she feels certain is her destiny. - From the back of the book. Moonlight is the first in a series by Rachel Hawthorne. I was looking for a short boo

Book Review: Keys to the Repository - Melissa de la Cruz

Won't you come inside? Lavish Parties. Passionate meetings in the night. Bone-chilling murders. Exams. The day-to-day life of Schuyler Van Alen and her Blue Bloods friends (and enemies) is never boring. But there's oh-so-much more to know about the beautiful and powerful Blue Bloods. Below the streets of Manhattan, within the walls of the Repository, lies a wealth of revealing short stories, journal entries, and never-before-seen letter about the vampire elite dating back through time. - From the back of the book. Keys to the Repository is a companion book to the popular Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz. It contains short stories, character profiles, and has never before seen information about the Blue Bloods series. Only it doesn't. At the beginning, it gives you an overview of the whole series of Blue Bloods books. There is nothing in this that we don't already know from the books themselves, although, if you have forgotten anything, it was quite a go

Book Review: Clockwork Angel - Cassandra Clare

Magic is dangerous - but love is more dangerous still. When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray arrives in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Friendless and haunted, Tessa seeks refuge with the Shadowhunters, a band of warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons. Drawn ever deeper into their world, she finds herself fascinated by - and torn between - two best friends and quickly realises that love may be the most dangerous magic of all. - From the back of the book. I love Cassandra Clare. I think she's amazing. So, having read The Mortal Instruments series, I started to look for something else by her. And I found that she was coming out with a prequel series called The Infernal Devices. I was so happy. I knew it was going to be amazing and I was right. It was. And, I think it was BETTER than The Mortal Instruments. This seri
