August 2013 Wrap-Up

Guys! I finally read lots of books this month! Hurrah! :D That's a first in a VERY long time. Here's my wrap-up of my bookish month of August!

The Lucy Variations  Adorkable  Phoenix
You should definitely read these books!

1. The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr
2. Listening for Lucca by Suzanne LaFleur
3. Adorkable by Sarra Manning
4. Butterfly Summer by Anne-Marie Conway
5. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey (DNF)
6. I'd Tell You I Loved You But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter
7. Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter
8. Small Persons with Wings by Ellen Booraem
9. Backward Glass by David Lomax (DNF)
10. The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
11. Phoenix by SF Said
12. Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover by Ally Carter

I had two DNFs this month - I've decided that if I'm not really loving it, and I don't really care about the story that much, I'm not going to bother finishing it. There are so many other awesome books out there that I really want to read, so why waste time reading ones that I'm not enjoying? So, I gave up on The 5th Wave because everybody kept dying and it was bumming me out and I was on holiday and really didn't want to be bummed out on holiday. And Backward Glass was good but it was confusing time travel and there were several times when I had to go back and reread because I couldn't get my head around how things were happening, and in the end I just gave up.

My book of the month...

I'D TELL YOU I LOVE YOU BUT THEN I'D HAVE TO KILL YOU by Ally Carter

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (Gallagher Girls, #1)

This book was so much fun! I loved it so much that I read the next one straight away and will definitely be reading books 4, 5 and 6 as soon as I can (I have them reserved for me in the library). I might review it, not sure yet!

MOVIE NEWS
Since there's been a lot of YA adaptation related news this month I thought I'd collect that all for you here. Have you guys seen The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie yet? I actually really liked it, and although it was nothing special it was a lot of fun. There have been a lot of mixed reviews though, so I'd like to hear your thoughts!

Also, there have been a couple of trailers released this month, one for the Vampire Academy movie, and one for the Divergent movie!

I think this looks awesome, definitely looking forward to Divergent!

This, however, I think leaves something to be desired... I'll still see it though, I'm sure.

What do you think? Lastly, The Fault In Our Stars movie, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, has started filming, yay! Cannot wait to see that one, although I'm kind of scared that it won't live up to the book, and also because I shall weep throughout the whole thing ;) Here's a video from the set.

Reviews posted this month (just one this month due to holidays!):

Soulmates by Holly Bourne

I'll definitely try to post some more in September!

Here's what I'm looking forward to reading next month:

Only The Good Spy Young (Gallagher Girls, #4)  Stray  The Eye of Minds (The Mortality Doctrine, #1)

Some September releases for you to look forward to! I'll hopefully have reviews out for Vivian Versus the Apocalypse and The Rig in the next couple of weeks - but in the mean time they're both well worth the read!

SOULMATES  United We Spy (Gallagher Girls, #6)  Vivian Versus The Apocalypse
The Rig  Briar Rose  The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

What was your favourite book you read this month?
Did you read any you didn't enjoy?
What are you looking forward to reading in September?

Comments

  1. I've just finished the last Gallagher Girls book and I loved it. So glad you're enjoying the series! Her other series, Heist Society, is also brilliant.

    Best of wishes for September!

  2. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Vampire Academy movie looks...er, campy. Sad, because I've been looking forward to that film. Sigh.

Divergent looks kick-ass, though. And ehmerged. TFioS!!!!!

*I am no longer accepting blog awards :( I do not have time to go through all the things that come with it, and though I'm honoured you thought of me, I'm sure you can find someone who will love it, and be able to carry out the rules :)

Good morning! Hope you're having a good week! Today I have a review for one of the biggest titles at YALC this year.
